MILES, ALAN J. "Al"\nOf Big Flats, NY, passed away very unexpectedly on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the age of 64. Alan was born February 20, 1947 in Corning, NY, a son of the late William and Elnora Kilbury Miles. Alan was a 1965 graduate of Horseheads and honorably served his country in the US Army. Al recently retired from Kennedy Valve in Elmira as a purchasing agent, was a member of the American Legion Post #1612 in Big Flats, and a member of Chemung Rod and Gun Club. Al was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He was very supportive and involved in his children's athletic activities, most notably the Horseheads High School swim program. Al is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Paula Paiement Miles; children, Mark Miles, Michael (Amy) Miles, and Megan Miles; grandchildren, Ryan, Gabrielle, Andrew (AJ) and Alexis; brother, Paul (Theresa) Miles of Utica, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends will be received at Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13 on Friday, November 25, 2011 from 4-7PM. Al's Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 10AM on Saturday, November 26, 2011 where military honors will be accorded. With Alan being an 11 year survivor of cancer, the family respectfully request that memorials be made in his name to Falck Cancer Center, 600 Roe Ave, Elmira, NY 14905.
