Dave L. Padgett \nHorseheads, NY \n\nAge 85, passed away on January 25, 2023. Born October 12, 1937, in Elmira, NY, to the late DeGrove and Ethel Squires Padgett. He lived his life in the community he loved and served in several areas in Elmira Heights. It’s here that he met his wife of 65 years, Letha Blodgett and had three children, David W. (Donna), Sara (Brian) and Steve (Debbie Chopko). \n\nHe will be remembered as an incredible family man and community member. Dave graduated from Southside High School in 1955, served 30 years as an officer with Elmira Heights Police Dept. retiring as Chief in 1992. Lifetime member of Elmira Heights Fire Dept., serving as Chief for 13 years and Paramedic and teacher with Erway Ambulance. Dave was one of 5 that started the Small Fry Football program in the area, he was a huge Elmira College Hockey fan, Yankee fan, an Edison football trainer and was placed on the first “Shock Mobile” with Erways. Dave put forth great effort in anything that came his way.\n\nDave is predeceased by his brother, Duane. In addition to his wife and children Dave is survived by his grandchildren, Dave (Erica) Padgett, Mike Padgett (Ellie), Mathew Craven (Jessica Blair), Emily Chapin, Megan (John) Kotsy, Josh Padgett, Jessica Padgett, and Jillian Padgett; great grandchildren; Ellie, Ronan, Clayton, Abe, Mason and Mia; brother, Tom “Sonny” Padgett; sister, Sandra May; sister-in-law, Catherine Padgett as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Dave also enjoyed time spent with his Spaulding, Hollenbeck and Ludwig cousins.\n\nThe family welcomes your thoughts and prayers at this time. Per the family’s wishes the services will be held privately. He will be laid to rest at St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
