HOLDEN, EUGENE L. age 88 of Elmira, NY. died at home on Monday, September 8, 2014. Friends may call at the BAKER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, FROM 9AM-10AM WITH FUNERAL SERVICES FOLLOWING AT 10AM. INTERMENT WILL FOLLOW IN WOODLAWN CEMETERY, ELMIRA, WITH FULL MILTARY HONORS BY THE U.S.NAVY AND THE CHEMUNG COUNTY HONOR GUARD. PASTOR LEANNE M. ZECK OFFICATING. Eugene is survived by sons-and daughters-in laws: Robert E. of Cooper Plains, NY, Thomas G. and Kathy, Burdett, NY, John S. and Dawn of Victor, NY, daughter and son-in law, Jean Ann and Paul Normand of Mohnton, PA. Fourteen grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren. Sister, Roberta, brother, Steven. Predeceased by loving wife, Mary in 1997, four brothers, Randall, Gerald, Harvey and George. Born Jan 18, 1926, graduated from Elmira Free Academy, 1944. Married to Mary Elizabeth Jensen, 1944. Navy Veteran of WWII, drafted into Navy in 1944. Basic Training at Sampson Naval Base on Seneca Lake and then shipped to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Discharged 1946. After the war, Gene held a number of jobs, milkman, Remington Rand factory, and patrolman for Elmira Police Dept. Gene went to work in 1955 at Jensen's Paint Store with his brother-in-law Gordon Jensen. Eugene opened his own store, Stevens Paint Store in Corning, NY in 1963. His knack for matching paint colors to anything was phenomenal. He ran the paint store until 2009. His son Robert is now the proprietor of Steven's Paint Store. Eugene was an avid outdoorsman scuba diving, fishing, hunting, and target shooting. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing for lake trout on Seneca and Keuka Lakes and bass fishing as well with his sons. Gene's bowling, golf, and euchre at the Masonic Temple were other favorite hobbies. A good sense of humor, quick wit, and a great memory were his trademark.
