George Richard Held\nHorseheads, NY \nPassed at home on Monday November 15, 2021 at the age of 90. His beloved wife of 67 years, Marilyn Louise Smith Held, was with him.\nGeorge was a humble hero. He served his country in the U.S. Army, his community as American Legion Post 154 past president, and his church Christian Faith Fellowship as a Deacon. Most of all, he was a hero to his wife and six children Pamela (Pete) Held Rockett, Robert (Mary) Held, Patricia (Frank) Held Rugiero, Donald Held, Kathryn (Tony) Held Rivera and Darrell (Tina) Held. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.\nUntil the day of his death, he was the living example of integrity and faithfulness to his entire family. He showed both his sons and daughters how a husband is to treat his wife, and he instilled in all of them both his love of country and confidence in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He taught them the value of both working hard and having fun. He never lost his sense of humor.\nGeorge was preceded in death by his parents William and Ruth Rounds Held and all of his siblings. He was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy and lived in Horseheads.\nFriends and family are invited to attend his service at Christian Faith Fellowship Church at 719 Holdridge Street, Elmira, NY 14904 on Saturday, November 20 at 12:00 noon. Family will receive guests beginning at 11:00 AM.
