Joanne Smith \nHorseheads, NY \npassed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the age of 74. Joanne was born March 9, 1949 in Elmira, NY a daughter of the late Charles and Thurley Crandall Bowers.\n\nJoanne graduated from Mount Sinai with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and later earned her Master’s Degree at Elmira College. She retired after 46 years from a career that she loved with the Arnot Ogden Medical Center working in the Operating Room, Recovery Room and Day Surgery over the span of her career. She was also an active member of the Horseheads Elks Club. \n\nShe is pre-deceased by her husband, William “Smitty” Smith. \n\nJoanne is survived by her son, Jason (Melissa) Smith and their children, Kamryn, Izabella, Alexa, and Derrick; brothers, Lee (Carol) Whipple and their children, Michael, Joesph, Maria, Carol, Diane and Vicki; brother, Charles (Donna) Bowers and their children, Melissa and Tait; and several friends and neighbors. \n\nJoanne absolutely loved spending time with her son and his family. Joanne and Jason were very close and talked daily. They often all traveled together. A highlight of those family travels was always to Key West, Florida as well as to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Joanne was very much so looking forward to their upcoming trip to Key West and also a Caribbean Cruise they had planned for this summer. Joanne also thoroughly enjoyed spending time at camp with her family and dear friends which was something else she shared a love of with her son and grandson. \n\nJoanne loved her family dearly and enjoyed the times they all spent together over the years. She missed her husband greatly and comfort is being found by her family that she is now reunited with him.\n\nThe family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan’s Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 1PM-4PM with her funeral service to follow at 4:00. She will be laid to rest along side her husband at Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY at the convenience of the family. \n\nThose wishing to remember Joanne please consider memorial contributions to the B.P.O.E.
