John C. Viele\nApache Junction, AZ\n\nHusband of Carol (Van Horn) Viele, passed away on January 10, 2021, in Apache Junction, AZ at the age of 77. He was born in Elmira, NY, on August 31, 1943, to the late Roswald and Anna (Ferraro) Viele. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country. He then worked for Corning, Inc, Weyerhauser, and Borg Warner in many different roles. He and Carol also briefly owned a furniture store in Elmira and Boca Rattan. He was a dedicated employee and enjoyed his work at all companies, yet always found a way to be at and/ or coach all of the cross country, softball, volleyball, band, and choir activities for both of his children, even through college. His family was most important to him. He and Carol recently moved to Christiana, TN, to be close to their grandsons and carry on the tradition of being there for all the sports and activities, creating wonderful memories. He loved being a Grandpa and spending time with his grandsons. He was a very active and long-time member of Saint Mary our Mother Catholic Church in Horseheads, and recently of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Murfreesboro, TN, as well as Saint George Roman Catholic Church in Mesa, AZ (where he and Carol have spent the winter months for several years). He was a devout Catholic and passed his faith in Jesus to his family and all who knew him. He was active with the Knights of Columbus, as well as serving in food pantries. John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol, his two children, J. Randy (Conon Chartrand) of Albany, NY, and Julie (Matthew) Guidry of Murfreesboro, TN, and their two boys, Owen (11) and Ian (8), and bonus son, Christian Huemmeler (former exchange student) (Anne) of Germany. He is also survived by his sister Anna (Ron) Boulas of Horseheads, brother Roswald (Sandy) Viele of Elmira, his sister-in-law, Nina (Don) Williams of Mesa, AZ, brother-in-law Richard (Grace) Van Horn of Big Flats, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and special, lifelong friends Robert J and Linda (Casey) Wells of Apache Junction, AZ, and Kathleen (Burdick) (Ed) Aldrich of Elmira. John and Carol loved to travel, locally with frequent camping trips, nationally to amazing beaches and landmarks, Yankees and Buffalo Bills games, and internationally to visit Christian, as well as Rome/ the Vatican. John was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his mother-in-law, Lena Chomenko Swatsworth and nephew Randy J. Viele.
