Joseph Frederick Ruhmel \nage 76 of Horseheads, NY passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born on June 27, 1942 in Elmira, NY to the late Helen and John Ruhmel. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janet (Kolcun) Ruhmel, sons, Joseph II (Kathy) Ruhmel of Greenfield Center, NY, Jeffrey (Ammie) Ruhmel of Oneida, NY, and David (Kim) Ruhmel of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren Cassidy, Tyler, Jack, Maggie, Preston, Collin, Natalie, Nathan and Owen; fraternal twin brother and sister-in-law Richard (Donna) Ruhmel of Lutz, FL; sisters-in-laws Barbara Clark and Iolani Ruhmel; brother-in-law and sister-in law Alan and Nancy Terwilliger; brother-in-law Robert (Patty) Kolcun; several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brothers Robert and John Jr. and brother in-law Larry Clark. Joe owned and operated the Yankee Clipper Barber Shop in Horseheads, NY until his retirement in 2013. He was a barber for 53 years. After retiring he would visit some of his customer's homes to cut their hair. Joe was a devoted husband, father, and "papa". He loved his family and treasured time spent with them. He especially enjoyed his yearly visit to the Saratoga Race Track. Joe was a communicant of the parish of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 3-5PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Oakwood Ave., Elmira Heights, NY at 10AM. Joe will be laid to rest at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Elmira, NY immediately following.
