Joshua Mansfield\nMillport, NY \nDied unexpectedly on July 31, 2021 at the age of 34. He passed while doing two things he loved: giving his time to others and riding his motorcycle. Josh is survived by his father Kenneth Peterson, daughters Lena, 11, Bailey, 7, sister Atlanta (Conrad) Hernandez, twin brother Jonathan (Lorrie) Mansfield, brothers Andrew Peterson, and Tyler Peterson, his Grandparents Michael & Cathy Owens, and Charlotte Freeman-Mansfield-Buckland, as well as 4 nieces and 1 nephew, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his mother, Christina Peterson. Josh was born November 3, 1986 in Elmira, NY to Christina Peterson, exactly 13 minutes before his twin, sparking a lifelong battle for title of better twin. Josh attended Horseheads High School, followed by entering the US Army Reserves as a construction equipment operator. During his service he received the National Defense Service Medal as well as an Army Service Ribbon. Josh found his purpose serving the community, serving both as a firefighter with the Millport Fire Department and as a garbage collector for Casella Waste. He was with the fire department for 16 years, earning a firefighter of the year award, and was promoted to captain for the last two. He worked with Casella Waste, taking great pleasure in both capturing the sunrise and antagonizing his family with texts and calls at ungodly hours. He was beloved by his "garbage community", receiving many gifts and kind gestures over the years, including much appreciated cookies. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and outriding for benefit rides, such as the Troop ride, always giving his time to benefit others. Josh never turned down an opportunity to help those in need. The job he was most passionate about, however, was being a father. Josh was a proud daddy of two daughters whom he dedicated his life to. Nothing made him happier then spending quality time with his girls. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Calling hours are scheduled for 11AM - 3:00PM on Monday, August 9, 2021 at the Maranatha Bible Chapel, 774 Sing Sing Rd., Horseheads, NY with Funeral Services to follow. He will be laid to rest at Millport Cemetery with Military Honors immediately following.
