Loretta J. Deats\nHorseheadsNY \nPassed away on Tuesday May 25, 2021 after a brief illness, at the age of 91. She was born September 16, 1929 in Elmira,NY and was one of eleven children to the late Stanley Makowiec and Mary Kiczek. Loretta retired as a secretary after 25 years from Horseheads Central School District at Center Street Elementary School. Her love of people prevailed in all that she did; Hosting coffee club, square dancing, quilting, collecting for the cancer drive, registering voters, singing in the resurrection choir, attending Legion of Mary prayer group, baking and delivering coffee cakes, traveling, and playing cards. Loretta's love of her 5 children and husband of 55 years was quite evident. She is predeceased by her husband Bert Deats and daughter Colleen Deats; and nine of her ten siblings. She is survived by her children Yvonne Sadler (David) of Breesport, Cindy Deats (Pat) of Anchorage AK, Sherry Deats (Gary Reis) of Menlo Park ,CA and Bert Deats II Horseheads; grandchildren, Aimee Swartwood (Shawn Maahs) of Anchorage AK, Jeremy Swartwood (Maureen) of Anchorage AK, Aaron Sadler (Jessica) of Decatur TN, Michelle Petrova (Alexey) of Lansing; great grandchildren, Maelynn Goldstein, Robert and Ryan Sadler, Rayna Swartwood, Aava Goldstein; sister, Theresa Hurley and goddaughter Jackie Conklin, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. The family will welcome relatives and friends to St. Mary Our Mother Church, Broad St., Horseheads, NY on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 10AM-11AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11AM with Fr. Christopher Linsler. She will be laid to rest along side her husband at Forest Lawn Memorial Park immediately following.
