Raymond H. "Ray" Potter Obituary (1931 - 2015)

POTTER, Raymond H. Of Erin, NY passed away on Wednesday morning, April 29, 2015 at the age of 83. Ray was born on May 20, 1931 in the town of Lyme, NY, a son of the late Harold and Gladys Miller Potter. He lived much of his childhood between Syracuse, NY and Miami, FL; most of his adult life in Syracuse, NY; and his last years in Erin, NY. He served during the Korean War as a Reciprocating Engine Mechanic in the US Air Force, and maintained a lifelong love of planes, especially the Boeing B-29 Superfortress that he worked on during the war. He was a very skilled carpenter, building furniture as a hobby, and worked as a furniture refinisher at the old Franklin Furniture stores in Syracuse in the 1960s. He was also an avid gardener. He retired on a disability from the NYS Dept. of Transportation. In his later years, using the assistance of a motorized wheelchair, he turned his attention to baking and reading as hobbies. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Doris Palmer Potter in 2005. Ray is survived by his children, Deborah A. Potter and Raymond, Jr., both of Erin, NY; one sister, Mildred West; one brother, Edward Potter; and several nieces and nephews. It is Ray's request that all services be held privately.
