Richard J. Barton \nHorseheads, NY\nPassed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the age of 88. Richard "Dick" was born on June 23, 1933 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth Farnham Barton. \n\nIn addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his in-laws, Charles and Gertrude Burt, his sister-in-law, Lucille Theopheles, and brother-in-law, Chuckie Burt.\n\nHe is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Lois Burt Barton of 61 years; daughters, Allyson Lee Barton; Lisa (John) Saltzer and Trudi Barton; grandchildren and great grandchild, Michael (Sarah Haines) Schaffer, Garrett Wilkinson, Kayli (Seth Wood) Wilkinson, Grayson Saltzer, and Savannah Mosher, brother-in-law, Jim Theopheles, extended family members and a host of friends. \n\nDick was proud of serving his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp. in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired after 20 years as a Gunnery Sergeant. Dick exemplified what a good guy was in all that he did. He loved to fish and taught his girls and his grandchildren. An avid sports fan, football and baseball was a mutual passion with his wife and family. Dick enjoyed spending time at Keuka Lake and in North Carolina especially the Outer Banks. He has left an indelible legacy of faith, family, and love for all who knew him or just met him. \n\nThe family will be holding a private ceremony for family and close friends at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Dick will be laid to rest at Ashland Cemetery, Wellsburg, NY immediately following with Military Honors. \n\nIn lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Dick, please consider donations in his memory to the American Diabetes Association or Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
