STOKES, Vernon F. "Spike" Passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at the age of 89. Vernon was born March 1, 1928 in Gardiner, NY, a son of the late David and Laura Rosencrans Stokes. Spike proudly drove truck for over 50 years logging more than 5 million miles with Teamsters Local 456 in Elmsford, NY. His CB radio handle "Smiling Jack" perfectly described his demeanor with everyone he met. He took every opportunity to make new friends. People were drawn to his constant smile and good nature. He served his country honorably with the US Army during the Japanese Restoration and was an active supporter of veterans groups. He was a proud member of various American Legion posts.
