VIRGINIA MARSDEN\n\nAge 95 of Elmira, NY died on Friday, February 12, 2021. She was born on Thursday, September 17, 1925, the daughter of Charles and B. Alice (Hootman) Johnston in Youngstown, Ohio. She grew up in Upper Darby, Penn., attended local schools and graduated, Phi Beta Kappa, from Grinnell College in 1946. While living in Syracuse she met and married Malcolm M. Marsden in 1948. They were married for 69 years until his death in 2017. In 1955 the couple moved to Elmira, after earning a Master's Degree in Education, she taught fifth grade at Hendy Avenue School for almost twenty years. After retirement she served on the Board of Steele Memorial Library and Friends of the Library as well as being the longtime Directress of the Altar Guild at Grace Episcopal Church. She is survived by her son, John of Elmira and her daughter, Mary of Dennisport, MA. Virginia's ashes will be interred at Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium in St. Michael's Chapel immediately after a small family service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations in Virginia's memory to Grace Episcopal Church Altar Guild or the Friends of the Steele Memorial Library or to other worthy causes.
